What is IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System is designed to
assess the language ability to candidates who need to study or work where
English is used as the language of communication. IELTS is accepted by
institutions and High Commissions of the following countries.
1. Australia
2. New Zealand
3. U.K.
4. Ireland
5. Canada
Now even in USA 400 Universities & Colleges accepting IELTS. It covers all
four language skills called modules: Listening, Writing, Speaking and
Reading.
Candidates must select either academic or general training (reading &
writing modules) depending in the stated requirements of their sponsor or
receiving institution. Good Universities required 6 Band.
IELTS: - is accepted in about 25 countries including USA, by educational

What is TOEFL?
Test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL) is a computer-based
test, conducted by Education Test Services. It is mandatory for students who
want to purchase higher studies in the USA.
IBT-TOEFL has four sections Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The
test is out of 120 score. Higher than 70 is required to get admission in a
good university.

What is SAT? "Scholastic Aptitude Test" (SAT)
The SAT is a Standardized test designed to help predict how well you are
likely to do in your academic work as a college freshman. By looking at your
school grades and our SAT scores, college admission officers get a sense of
you as a potential student a person they'd like to have in their school.
The New-SAT is of ten sections. The total testing time allowed is
31 Hours. You are given 25
minutes apiece to complete seven of them. They are as below:

What is GMAT?
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) measures verbal,
quantitative and analytical writing skills. The GMAT is used by graduate
schools of business to assess the qualifications of application to graduate
management programmes.
The GMAT is designed to predict how well you perform in graduate management
programmes. The GMAT tests do not test specific knowledge of business or
achievement in a particular subject. The GMAT is a test of your verbal,
quantitative and analytical writing skills.

What is LSAT?
The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is administered four times a
year at designed centers worldwide. The LSAT is a 3.5 hour standadized test
designated to measure some of the thinking skills considered essential for
success in a law school. It is required for admission to all law schools
that comprise the membership of the Law-Scholl Admission Counsel (LSAC).
L.S.A.C. develops and administers the LSAT with the assistance of American
College Testing (ACT).
The LSAT consists of five 35 minutes sections of multiple choice questions
and one 30 minutes writing sample. Only four of the five sections are
scored. The fifth section is an experimental one and tests new items. The
writing sample is not scored, but copies of the sample are sent to all law
schools to which a candidate applies. The LSAT is scored on a scale from 120
to 180.

What is GCET? GCET: - To avoid multiplicity and duplication of the
tests and to facilitate students offering fair opportunity , Gujarat
Common Entrance Test ( GCET ) has planned and held for the first time in
July 2002. For all the seven universities named, Gujarat University, MS
University, SP University, North Gujarat University, South Gujarat
University, Saurashtra University & Bhavnagar University and their
affiliated self finance colleges offering app. 1650 seats in MBA and app.
1900 seats in MCA, GCET is conducted. Every year one of the Universities
acts as a nodal agency and manages the complete affairs. Separate tests are
conducted for MBA and MCA on two consecutive Sundays in the month of
June/July. Students need to apply separately for GCET-MBA and GCET-MCA.
Common merit list is prepared separately for both MBA and MCA and
centralized counseling & admission process is followed. -
Eligibility:
- Graduate students with minimum 50% marks ( 45% for SC/ST students )
aggregate are
eligible to apply for the test subject to fulfilling at least one
of the following criteria.
1. Student must have passed graduation from one of the university located in
Gujarat state.
2. Student must have passed 12th board ( GSEB / CBSE / ICSE ) from a school
located in Gujarat State.
The students who are in their final year of graduation are
also eligible for the test. There is no age
limit nor there is attempt limit.

GCET-MBA
GCET-MBA is held first in the series of MBA and MCA.
The test is conducted in two stages, viz 1. Written Test 2. Group Discussion
& Personal Interview ( GD/PI) - Written Test:
It's a pure objective type test. Students have to answer the questions in
the answer sheet supplied. Questions are based on
1. Quantitative Ability ( Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Advance Maths.)
2. Data sufficiency ( You have to opine weather data given is sufficient to
answer the Question or not)
3. Data interpretation ( You have to analyze the graph / data given and
answer the questions)
4. Reading Comprehension ( Passages followed by Questions)
5. Verbal Ability ( English Usage & Grammar, Vocabulary related questions)
6. Logical and Analytical Reasoning ( Puzzles, nonverbal reasoning etc.)
7. General knowledge & General awareness ( questions related to current
affairs, history etc.)
Once the written test is over, students have to appear for GD / PI.
Through GD/PI, Student's perception, personality and communication skills
are tested.

GCET_MCA
Eligibility: - Apart from fulfilling the basic criteria for GCET,
student must also fulfill the criteria to be eligible to take GCET-MCA.
The candidate must have passed STD XII ( HSC ) examination or its equivalent
with Mathematics/ Business Mathematics/ Statistics as one of the subject.
GCET-MCA is conducted on the next sunday after GCET-MBA is held. GCET-MCA
admission is based purely on written test performance. It's pure objective
type test. Students have to answer the questions in the answer sheet
supplied.
Questions are based on: 1. Quantitative
Ability ( Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Advance Maths.)
2. Logical and Analytical Reasoning ( Puzzles, nonverbal reasoning
etc.)
3. Verbal Ability ( English Usage & Grammar, Vocabulary related

CAT : Indian Institute of Management was
setup first in Ahmedabad in 1961 by Government of India. In order to cater
to the increasing demand subsequently more IIMs were created at Calcutta,
Banglore, Lucknow, and recent in past at Indore and Khozikode. Now, There
are six campuses. Every year to select students for 2 years post graduate
programme and 2 years fellow programme for these six institutes IIMs conduct
Common Admission Test ( CAT ). There is more than 50 institute offering
admission on the basis of CAT score. ( List is given on the next page) CAT
is held annually once in the second half of November every year.
Eligibility: Irrespective of the percentage marks obtained in the
Graduation, all graduate students are eligible for CAT. The students who are
in their final year of graduation are also eligible for the test.
Notification: - Notification of CAT normally appears in national
dailies in the month July/August. Availability of forms & other details
appear in the same.
CAT comprises of two stages viz.
1. Aptitude Test (Written Test)
2. Group Discussion & Personal Interview ( GD/PI )
Aptitude Test: Broadly speaking it's a test of Maths, English,
Reasoning. Test is of 2 hours divided in 3 sections with almost equal no. of
questions each.
1. Quantitative Aptitude : - This section comprises questions on Algebra,
Arithmetic, Geometry and
Advance Maths.
2. Analytical & Logical Reasoning : This section comprises questions on Data
Interpretation,
Mathemetical and Logical Resoaning.
3. Verbal Reasoning & English Usage:- In this section comprises questions
are asked on Reading
Comprehension, English Usage and verbal reasoning. The
students who qualify in Aptitude test are
only eligible to appear for GD/PI. To Qualify in aptitude
test you have to perform well in each section.
There is sectional cut-off as well as combined cut-off. All
the students are informed about their score
through written communication.
Group Discussion and Personal Interview:- GD/PI is essential
part of final selection. In GD/PI,
candidate's communication skill, presentation power,
Perception, General awareness, Confidence,
interpersonal skill, group and asked to discuss a topic.
Topic could be any issue related to social,
economical, political matter or may be philosophy or fiction.
Result: Taking into account combined performance of both the staged final
merit list is prepared. The students who qualify, they are informed though
written communication.

AIEEE
:- ( All India Engineering Entrance Examination )
ABOUT AIEEE: - To avoid the multiplicity of Entrance Exams and to solve
the problems of overlaps and resuce physical, mental and financial burden on
students and their parents, a Common Entrance Test for Engineering, Pharmacy
and Architectures was introduced in the year 2002 which is popularly
referred as all Indian Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). Admission
to NIT ( National Institute of Technologies) is essentially through AIEEE.
No. OF Seats: - 110+ Institutes offer admission on the basis of AIEEE
performance for appr. 12000+ seats.
Eligibility: - The minimum academic qualification for admission through
AIEEE is a pass in the final examination of 10+2 or its equivalent. The
students who are appearing in the 12th are also eligible for test.
Age Limit: - Candidate appearing in AIEEE should not be
completing 25 years on 30th september of the year in which he/she actually
appears for AIEEE.
Language Of The Test: - The test is conducted in English & Hindi. The option
has to be exercised while filling the application form.

AIPMT ( ALL India Pre-medical/Pre Dental Entrance Examination)
All India Premedical / Pre Dental Entrance Test are conducted by central
Board of secondary Education ( CBSE ) for the 15% seats of Medical & Dental
Colleges of India.
ELIGIBILITY: - The minimum academic qualification for admission through
AIMPT is minimum 50% marks in physics, chemistry & Biology taken together.
For SC/ST and other backward classes this limit is 40%.
AGE LIMIT: - Candidate must have completed age of 17 years before 31st
December of the year in which he/she seeks admission.
LANGUAGE OF THE TEST: - The preliminary and the main examinations are
conducted in English & Hindi. The option has to be exercised while filling
the application form.
TEST CENTERS: - AIMPT is conducted at 30+ cities across the nation. In
Gujarat, it is conducted at Ahmedabad only.
NOTIFICATION: - Notification for AIMPT usually appears in month of October.?
ABOUT THE TEST: - AIMPT is conducted in two stages
1. Preliminary Examination
2. Final Examination
The Preliminary examination is a pure objective type test of 200 questions.
Each question has four options with singly correct answer. For each correct
response student gets 3 marks and for each incorrect response one mark is
deducted. No penalty for unattempted questions. Duration of the test is 3
hours. Brake up of 200 questions follows:

FINAL EXAMINATION: - The students who qualify in the preliminary
examinations are only eligible to appear for the final examination. The final
examination consists of 2 papers each of 2 hours.
Paper 1 : Physics & Chemstry
Paper 2 : Biology ( Botany & Zoology )
Both the papers are conducted on the same day, This is non objective paper
to be answered in the test booklet supplied. The Final examination is
conducted in the middle of the May.
Results: Results of the Preliminary examination gets out by end of April
while that of final examination is made available by 1st week of June.

IIT-JEE ( Indian Institute of Technology - Joint Entrance Examination
IIT-JEE & the Undergraduate Programme. The IIT - JEE is the joint
Entrance Examination conducted by the IITs for the admission in the seven
IITs. The standards of excellence maintained by these Institutes are
recognized and respected world over. Ranked amongst the top institutes of the
world, the degree awarded by the Indian Institute of Technology is at par
with that awarded by the university in the world. Every year the IITs conduct
joint Entrance Examination to select candidates for the four year B.Tech,
B.Pharm, Five year B.Arch, M. Tech, M.sc. courses offered at campuses located
in Central Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mumbai and Roorkee. The IT -
BHU Varanasi and ISM Dhanbad also select students on the basis of JEE.
No. of Seats: - App. 4000 seats are available in 7 IITs for 4 years B.Tech &
5 years integrated M.Tech / M.sc. Programme.
ELIGIBILITY: - The students who have passed 10+2 or an equivalent
examination or a pass in a three / four year diploma recognized by AICTE / by
a state board of Technical Education. The candidate appearing in any of these
examinations is also eligible to apply.
AGE LIMIT: - Candidates appearing in JEE should not be completing 25 years
on 30th September of the year in which he / she actually appears for JEE.
TEST CENTERS: Screening : - IIT - JEE Screening is conducted at 115+ centers
across the nation. In Gujarat, it is conducted at Ahmedabad, Baroda, Surat
and Rajkot.
Mains: - IIT - JEE Main Examination is conducted at almost 35 centers across
the nation in Gujarat, it is conducted at Ahmedabad.
Notification: - Notification for IIT - JEE Test appears usually in the month
of December. Availability of application appears in detail in the same.
ABOUT THE TESTS: - JEE is conducted annually in two stages
1. Screening
2. Mains
The screening test is of 3 hours duration, in physics, chemistry and
Mathematics with equal weight age in all the three subjects. Test is pure
objective in nature. For each correct response student gets 3 marks and for
each incorrect response one mark is deducted. No penalty for un-attempted
questions. Main examination has three separate papers ( non-objective ) in
physics, chemistry and mathematics each of 2 hour duration. The students who
have qualified in screening are only eligible for mains. All the papers are
kept on the same day. In both the screening and the Mains, Calculators, Log
tables are not allowed.
LANGUAGE OF TEST: - The screening test is conducted in English and Hindi.
The option has to be exercised at the time of filling the application form.
For the main examination students have choice of selecting one of the
following Languages.
Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Tamil & Telugu. Option has to
be exercised at the time of filling the application form.
RESULTS: -
SCREENING:- The qualifying criterion and the ranks in the
screening test are based on the total marks. Scored and there are no
individual subject cut off marks. The result of screening is normally made
available by last week of May. Result is also available on internet.
MAINS: - Based on the performance in individual subjects as well as
aggregate in the Main examination, final merit list is prepared. The result
gets out by the middle of June. It is also made available on website.
Aptitude Test for B. Arch. and B.Des: - Candidate is called for counseling
and desirous of joining the B.Arch. and B. Des course have to qualify in an
aptitude test conducted by respective institutes.
SYLLABUS: - Syllabus of IIT - JEE is from both 11th & 12th standards roughly
divided equally in both standards.
